Replacement Windows Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to install your windows? Will you have to paint or reinstall new interior window trim? What can be done so you never again have to paint exterior trim? Do you need a building permit? What if you are in a homeowners association? Does Betterliving have an energy savings guaranty? Are there any window sizes or shapes we cannot replace?
How long does it take to install your windows? Most window installations can be completed in 1 – 3 days with minimal disruption to your lifestyle.
Double hung windows can be installed for about $200 - $1400 each. Windows advertised for around $200 typically have poor thermal insulation performance and scaled down frames that are less durable and less energy efficient than quality frames. The old saying, "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is" holds true with $200 replacement windows. They do not tell you that these windows do not include any options such as screens, low-e coatings, argon gas, grids, capping outside wood with aluminum coil, and you have to pay extra for disposing of your old windows. After these desirable options are added back into the price, the $200 replacement windows become much more expensive. Even after adding all the extra cost options, the thermal performance is still far below Betterliving Crusader windows. High-end windows typically have many features and often have triple pane glass that will provide excellent insulation value. Due to their extremely high cost, it will take many years (and maybe never) to return your investment with energy savings. Betterliving Crusader replacement windows offer the insulation value of many triple pane windows at a far lower price, so your investment is returned in just a few years.
Will you have to paint or reinstall new interior window trim? Betterliving replacement windows are designed to be installed with little to no disturbance of interior paint, wallpaper, or trim. Most installations require that we remove the interior window stops to remove the old windows. Occasionally these stops need to be replaced, so you might have to paint them after we finish.
What can be done so you never again have to paint exterior trim? In most cases the exterior wood trim around your windows can be capped with aluminum coil so you never have to paint again. Coil is available in many colors.
Do you need a building permit? Some townships require permits to replace windows. Most do not. If a permit is required, we will submit the application and pay the fees.
What if you are in a homeowners association or historical area? We will submit all required paperwork to your homeowners association or historical review committee and attend a meeting with you if necessary.
Does Betterliving have an energy savings guaranty? Due to the NFRC standardized window testing, you can compare the thermal efficiency of most replacement windows by using the NFRC published independent test results. Betterliving Crusader windows are the most efficient double pane (affordable) argon filled windows in America. We do not offer an energy saving guaranty because our tested u-factor speaks for itself. Also it is nearly impossible to enforce the terms of an energy guaranty. Energy costs fluctuate, some winters are colder than others, and the dealer who sold the windows could claim your thermostat was set higher than the previous year or that you were careless with conservation. Window companies that offer energy savings guaranties do so knowing that you can never collect against them. We consider them to be scams.
Better living of Central PA is an approved contractor for the Keystone Home Energy Loan Program. This is a financing program where the interest rates and closing costs (if applicable) are subsidized by the state of Pennsylvania for qualifying Energy Star home improvements such as Better living replacement windows. Keystone HELP offers both secured and unsecured financing at great rates and terms up to 20 years. As with any loan, financing is subject to credit approval but the program is not restricted to any income level. All you have to do is complete a simple credit application with our Design Consultant and we will usually have an answer within 24 hours. The application process and closing of the loan can be conducted without ever leaving your home.
Are there any window sizes or shapes we cannot replace? It is rare we see windows we cannot replace. The only way to know for sure is to request a free in-home site survey with one of our Design Consultants.
